Daughters of the King

Daughters of the King The Daughters of the King is an Order for women who are communicants of the Episcopal Church, churches in communion with it, or churches in the Historic Episcopate. The Order was founded in 1885 by Margaret J. Franklin at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in New York City. The Daughters of the King Chapter at St. Paul’s Church was established October 2006. Our Chapter name is “The Little Flower Chapter” named in honor of the 19th century Carmelite saint, Therese of Lisieux, commonly known as “The Little Flower”. St. Therese wrote about the garden as a symbol of the kingdom of God, made up of many different types of flowers and plants, yet all growing together. She saw herself as a little, insignificant flower that looked for the presence of God in all the little things of life. She is often depicted with roses as a symbol of the prayers she promised after her death. The Order’s purpose is to bring others into a living, loving relationship with Jesus, our Lord and Savior, and to help strengthen the spiritual life of our parish. At St. Paul’s the Daughters are also our bereavement team, communicating with family members of parishioners who have recently died, helping with a reception after a service if the family requests that, and being a support afterwards.  The requirements for membership in the Order are that a woman be a communicant in the Episcopal Church, be willing to participate in the preparation period of study and vow to accept The Rule Of Life. Each Daughter undertakes a Rule of Life, pledging herself to a lifelong program of prayer, service and evangelism. The emblem of the Order is a silver Greek cross, which members wear at all times. Latin works inscribed on this cross broadly translate, “With heart, mind and spirit uphold the Cross”. Members are involved in all aspects of the work of the parish. Special service projects of our Chapter are that of Eucharistic Visitors, providing a sacramental ministry for parish members who are unable to attend church and responding to Prayer Card requests from Parishioners requesting daily prayer for themselves or others. The Daughters gather on the first Sunday of each month  following the 10:30 a.m. service. Women interested in joining can talk with any current Daughter (look for the Greek cross) or feel free to call Anne Henderson at (909) 596-2736.
