Mark was born and raised in a small village east of Youngstown Ohio and bordering Pennsylvania. His grandparents emigrated from Slovakia to find work in the steel mills of the Mahoning Valley. He was brought up in a devout Roman Catholic working class community and was drawn to service in the church at an early age. After serving many years as a Franciscan Friar in the mid-west he left the Order and moved to Los Angeles in 1980 working initially with homeless persons and immigrant families on Skid Row. Mark then began a career in social services working for agencies devoted to assisting the homeless. He and his spouse, Jimmy, joined the Epicopal Church in 1986 at St. Athanasius Parish in Echo Park. Years later, at All Saints' Episcopal Church in Beverly Hills, he was Coordinator for Mercy and Justice Ministries where he organized pediatric medical missions to the Episcopal Church of Honduras, and helped expand support there for people with AIDS. Mark was ordained priest in 2006 and temporarily worked at Diocesan Center while assisting at Church of the Ascension in Tujunga. He was sent to St. Paul's Pomona in 2006, as Priest-in-Charge under Special Circumstances and was elected Rector the follwoing year. He and his husband reside in northeast Los Angeles with their lovable terrier, Duffy.
