The time changes this coming Saturday night, so don't forget to set your clocks AHEAD one hour before you go to bed. (Spring Forward/Fall Back).
We observe the First Sunday of Lent this Sunday. The church is set in Lenten mode, to appear more barren and desert-like. All sacred images are covered, altars are arrayed in burlap and purple, the Liturgy and Music is more reflective. There are no bells rung and no alleluias sung during Lent and no piano voluntary or postlude. We depart each service quietly and proceed to coffee hour. Also no flowers in the church. In place of bells, we clap two pieces of wood together to remind us of the wood of the cross. This Sunday we will chant the traditional Anglican Great Litany from the Book of Common Prayer as we process around the inside of the church. This is an ancient prayer of repentance.
We encourage you to come earlier to the services and walk the Labyrinth up near the choir area. There are brochures inside the left side entrance that explain the Labyrinth and how to walk it. Or you may want to come early to spend time in quite prayer before the Blessed Sacrament altar.
The Society of Mary will have an open discussion on the Annunciation after praying the Rosary. All are welcome.
The Spanish language Eucharist may be on the verge of new growth. We recently had some former members of the Spanish language community that met here years ago return. They are excited about this ministry re-starting and hope to round up a lot of the former attendees. Pray for the growth of this ministry.
Remember that our Lenten Wednesday observance and devotions begin next Wednesday with the regularly scheduled Recovery Mass at 6 p.m., the Lenten Stations of the Cross devotion at 6:30 p.m., and a Soup Supper and class at 7 p.m. in the Sophia Room. Please join in whenever you can at whatever you can.
You will hear an announcement about the House Gatherings coming up. Due to our meetings with Bishop Bruce and a number of tasks that we have to plan, we will move the House Gatherings from March 15th to a later date.
